Built from found objects such as gears, springs, coils, chains, electrical components, and wire, Lion Dance channels the percussive energy, rhythm and spectacle of the performance that inspired it. Fiery oranges and reds collide with deep purples, turquoise, and lavender across a dense, layered surface, evoking the vibrant costumes and firecracker energy of performers bringing good luck and fortune. Wire tendrils radiate from the oval form like ribbons of energy in motion, blurring the line between stillness and dance.
Just as the lion outfit inside is made up of more than one person, the history of this planet is a costume we all inhabit together, lurching, dancing forward with vivid and furious motion, driven by our own desires yet dependent on one another.
